Welcome to the Bible in a Year for 2025. Intro to this series and resource links available here, plus here’s how I’m approaching this year.
Scriptures for Today:
Reflection:
Memorial Stones (4:1-9) - God performs a miracle in this generation crossing the Jordan that He had performed in the previous generation crossing the Red Sea. I love the twelve priests each selecting a stone to bring out of the river to commemorate the event. We need monuments to significant moments, lest we forget.
Provision (5:10-12) - The Lord’s care is such that one type of provision was given all the way up until the next phase, then it was retired. Now that they were in the Promised Land, the need for manna was over. God provided in one way for a season and in another way for the next season—the manna was given for food until the day they could eat food from the new land.
Strange battle plans, Rahab spared (6:15-19) - Joshua and the people marched around the city and shouting is an odd strategy. I have to wonder what they people thought while they were following this plan. Also, true to their word, Rahab was spared for being a friend to God’s people and hiding the spies.
Questions:
What moments in your life are important to remember for what the Lord has done?
When has God provided differently for you depending on the circumstances?
What else might the Holy Spirit be speaking with you about in the text today?
Prayer: Lord, help me remember your provision and your mercy towards me today. Amen.
“But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” (Matthew 13:23)
